MetaMask Card matters because MetaMask is already a default wallet for many crypto users. The MetaMask Card takes that wallet relationship and connects it to Mastercard spending. That makes the product more interesting than a generic crypto debit card. It is not just asking users to open another account. It is trying to make card spending feel like an extension of a wallet they may already use.

That does not make it frictionless. New sign-ups are temporarily paused in the United States and United Kingdom, and new Metal orders are paused. Existing cardholders can continue using their cards, while eligible new users elsewhere receive the Virtual card. A wallet-native card is still a regulated payment product once it touches card rails.

What MetaMask Card Is

MetaMask Card is a Mastercard debit product connected to supported MetaMask wallet flows. Users designate assets and spending limits while funds remain in the wallet until a transaction converts the selected token for card settlement. KYC and provider onboarding still apply.

Current spending support differs by network. MetaMask lists mUSD, USDC, USDT, wETH and selected euro, sterling or yield-bearing tokens on Linea; USDC and USDT on Solana and Base; and USDC on Monad. New York and Texas have narrower network support. The exact asset list should be checked in the live card dashboard rather than inferred from the wallet's broader token support.

Good: this gives wallet users a clearer path from crypto balances to everyday spending. Watch: network support is not the same as universal asset support. Users should confirm which tokens, chains and countries are live for their account before treating the card as ready.

Current Fees, Limits And KYC

The available Virtual tier has no annual or maintenance fee, but it is not transaction-fee free. Supported stablecoins can avoid a token fee in common local-currency cases, while non-local stablecoins can cost 0.5%, selected DeFi tokens cost 0.5% after a monthly allowance and other cryptocurrencies such as wETH cost 0.875%. The Virtual tier also lists a 1% cross-border charge.

ATM access is not universal. MetaMask currently limits Virtual-card ATM use to US cardholders, while new US sign-ups are paused. Metal holders have separate ATM terms, but new Metal orders are also paused. A new non-US Virtual user should therefore treat cash access as unavailable unless the live account says otherwise.

MetaMask Card belongs in comparisons with self-custody crypto cards, Mastercard crypto cards, Gnosis Pay and Exodus Spend Card. The key difference is wallet familiarity. If you already live in MetaMask, the card may feel natural. If you do not, another product may be simpler.

Availability And Paused Rollouts

The current eligible-country list covers parts of Europe, Canada, Latin America and selected additional markets. The notice at the top of the official FAQ overrides the static country list for new applications: US and UK sign-ups are temporarily paused.

Merchant acceptance is separate. An existing card can be used where Mastercard is accepted even when local residents cannot currently sign up. Before completing KYC, confirm that the Card tab is available for the account and that the intended token-network pair appears in the spending selector.

Who It Fits

MetaMask Card fits users who already use MetaMask and want wallet-connected spending without moving into a pure exchange-card setup. It may be especially useful for people who care about supported chains and prefer wallet workflows over app balances.

It is less ideal for users who want a basic card with no crypto-wallet learning curve. It also deserves extra checking if you rely on a specific chain, token or country, because wallet support and card support are not always identical.

Pros

  • Good:strong fit for existing MetaMask users.
  • Good:non-custodial positioning and network support make it more wallet-native than many cards.
  • Good:the free Virtual tier earns 1% mUSD back on eligible purchases.

Cons

  • Watch:KYC is still required.
  • Watch:the Virtual tier has token-dependent and cross-border fees.
  • Watch:new US and UK sign-ups and all new Metal orders are paused.

Bottom Line

MetaMask Card is a differentiated wallet-first product, but its current value depends on the exact token fee and whether new sign-ups are open in the user's country. The Virtual card is the actionable tier; Metal should not be treated as orderable while the pause remains.

Start with the MetaMask Card profile, compare its full cost in the crypto card fee guide, then review Gnosis Pay and the self-custody card guide.

Pros

  • Good: MetaMask wallet integration
  • Good: Self-custody oriented
  • Good: Mastercard network

Cons

  • Watch: Limited rollout by supported country or territory
  • Watch: KYC required
  • Watch: New US and UK sign-ups and all new Metal orders are temporarily paused

Bottom line

MetaMask Card belongs on the shortlist only if its fees, regions, funding flow and KYC rules match how you plan to spend. Check the provider page before moving funds.
